How many hours did machines run per customer?

The tower light on a machine tells you how many hours it ran, and the work order in your ERP tells you which customer those hours were for. Kaya measures each machine's runtime by reading the light from the cameras in your factory, and if you connect your ERP you can assign those hours to jobs and customers.

Month end

When you sit down at month end to split hours across customers, what you usually have is the forms your operators filled in. Some are incomplete, and some were written after the job from memory. You fill the gaps yourself. You think back to which job was on that week and roughly how long the machine must have run, and you write a number down. It's a good guess, but it's still a guess.

It's easy to blame the operator, but their job is to get parts out. The form is a second job on top of that, and it's the first thing to slip on a busy day. Moving the form to a tablet or a QR code doesn't change that, because the hours still depend on what someone enters.

How the hours are measured

The tower light on a machine already shows what state the machine is in. Green means it's running, amber means it has stopped and red means alarm. That colour is what Kaya reads through the camera. The operator enters nothing, and no sensor is fitted to the machine.

If your cameras see the lights clearly, you don't need new ones. If they don't, you may need to change a camera's angle or add a camera.

If there is a period when the camera can't see the machine, Kaya doesn't fill it with a guess. It records that period as "no evidence".

Where the customer comes from

A camera can see that a machine is running, but not whose job it is running. That is in the work order in your ERP. Kaya connects to Odoo today, and other ERP systems are planned. Once the ERP is connected, Kaya receives the work orders and customers from it, and the report shows how many hours were worked for each customer.

If a work order was entered wrong, the hours assigned to that customer come out wrong too, and Kaya can't correct it. And the ERP can't add, remove or change a measured hour.

You don't have to connect an ERP. Without one, Kaya still measures each machine's runtime, but you don't see the hours by customer.

Checking a number

If a machine's hours look wrong to you, open the camera frames for that hour and look. You see what colour the light was and whether anyone was at the machine. The frames show the state of the machine, not which customer the job was for.

What you need to start

A tower light on the machine that a camera can see is enough. If a machine has none and you add one, Kaya can measure that machine too. The Kaya page lists what Kaya doesn't do, and setup questions are answered in the FAQ.

The first 30 days are free. During that time Kaya measures your machines' runtime from your existing cameras, and when the 30 days are up we go through the results with you.
